When I close my eyes...

When I close my eyes,
I am in a meadow
where grass is green
Where I can feel the wind
weather my mask away
And I sense memories
of battle and blood unseen
When I close my eyes,
I am surrounded
by trees growing, living, blossoming
And the smooth, calm water in a lake
A place where I can get away
from the struggle of surviving
When I close my eyes,
I see a castle
built by my imagination
Where I can smell
the salty air of the sea
Somewhere I can hide
from the war of a nation
When I open my eyes,
I am brought back
to the deafening noise,
The depressing colors of our earth.
Where people our nothing
but dolls and toys
